What makes great Commercial Photography? Making it conceptual. Here’s what I did.
My friend Matt Vansteenkiste and I worked together on this shoot for Mondo a brand for fly fishing. We wanted the photo to be sleek and clean. We came up wit the idea of making it catchy by adding in some sweedish fish to add in our catch line that fishing is sweet. This reel was a bit harder to shoot and called for more set up because it’s a highly reflective surface. You’ll see from the set up that we used a white card to even out the light that was coming in from both speed lights on the side. With the right placement and arch we were able to get the logo in nice lighting. We kept our aperture at around f 7.1 to keep the darkness in the background and shutter at 1/160. Some light editing in post was needed. We changed around our scene a few times till we got what we were looking for.
