How to get creative outdoor product photography with some simple tips!

I’ve discovered that shooting outdoors can both be complicated but simple! When you open yourself to shooting products outdoors you can get creative with a natural background. Whether you are in the mountains or the desert or just on your front porch, it seems like there is a variety of things to choose from. For this post mine happens to be outside of a lodge in Idaho kind of up in the hills. With this I tried to get a little creative with the trees or the rocks on the ground, even the mountains off in the distance. What ever natural source you decide to use as your props and background just make sure it makes sense. This will really sell the product. A background could be cool and creative but not have any relation to a product and this might throw it off.

During this shoot it was about mid day and so I had quite a bit of light. I used some shade from some of the photos while for others I added in an off camera flash to make sure the logo was lit well! This is one of the most important aspects of product photography, that the logo is well lit! Alex Brown did so well at this when he too shot some products just outside on a deck.
