Sometimes All You Need to Create Dramatic Effect in Photography is a Speed Light and Modifier.
A couple months ago I learned how to get the studio black background like photographer Glyn Dewis. Well this technique is quite similar, it still use a speed light (off camera flash) and a closed down aperture. To create an even more dramatic effect in your photography try changing the modifier into something the photography world calls a snoot. Basically it’s like making your modifier into a closed cylinder as if you were stick a paper towel roll or something on your flash. This allows you to control the light to only light up a specific spot of your subject and create dramatic effect in your photography. I used the rogue flash bender to do this.
If you feel you want a little more light spill off like I did on my portrait, with the rogue benders you can open it up a little at the tip. This will allow a little more light to get through and not have quite a spotlight effect while still keeping the dramatic effect.
