Learn how people create a Gif with Photoshop. It’s easier than you think.
We see animated Gifs (or sometimes referred to as cinemagraphs) all over the internet, on social media, and now even in texting. Ever wanted to create your own with your own photos or video? I learned how to make one from two videos by PHlearn on Youtube. He goes through the process step by step from start to finish on how to create one, so I’d recommend checking out the Tutorials. To create a Gif with Photoshop you first have to start of with an idea then either plan to shoot a short video or series of photos. This time I chose to shoot or short video and use some masking techniques and editing showed in the tutorial mentioned above.
I wanted to try something and fun. I had originally imagined 3 shadows/silhouettes on the wall and then the one int he middle would start dancing while the others stood still. Unfortunately I couldn’t get everything I wanted out of this so I had to settle with two shadows instead. I really think the hardest part of this was coming up with the idea rather than executing it. Plan out your idea then bringing it into Photoshop will be a breeze because hard part is already done. Basically what I did was just get a strong flash light and have my subjects off to the side out of camera view. Then I took a short video. I recommend getting your lighting as good as you can in camera rather than in post, it makes things a little more rough. The only main part I struggled with to create a gif with Photoshop was the sizing part that was not mentioned in the tutorials. Size down your final file and consider bringing down the number of colors too. It’s easier than it seems though I promise!
