Sometimes you don’t just want beautiful scenery but you want to capture some beautiful portraits too!

On an excursion in and out of Teton National park we focused on using auxiliary lighting to properly expose the background and the person as I described in a previous blog post. We had beautiful scenery, beautiful portraits, and a beautiful trip which calls for some great shots. In some of these photos I decided I wanted to show off both the person and both the background but in others I just wanted the background to be a nice accent and bokeh. With so many mountains, trees, and water going for the outdoorsy look for the models was best.

For the lighting we used a beauty dish modifier to give a nice soft light on our models. Unfortunately to accomplish this there’s quite a bit of hands that could be needed help and carrying the lights down with a charger isn’t quite ideal. Though it did accomplish the goal of beautiful scenery and beautiful portraits.

I found a cool photographer that took some environmental portraits similar to these: Jessica Mason
